10 g Gold Bars

Number of products: 15

Ten grams is the weight at which a gold bar first feels like one. Argor-Heraeus makes it 31.5 × 18.5 × 1.0 mm, Umicore 31 × 18 mm at about the same thickness — around the footprint of a postage stamp and, for the first time in the range, a full millimetre deep.

It is also the weight at which the range of producers widens: Rand Refinery appears here alongside the Swiss, German, Belgian, British, Austrian and Australian names.

How big a 10 g gold bar actually is

Two refineries publish full specifications for this weight, and they agree closely — a useful reference when product photographs are shot at different magnifications. The table covers published specifications rather than current stock.

Refiner or standard Dimensions Form Packaging
Argor-Heraeus 31.5 × 18.5 × 1.0 mm minted blister + assay card
Umicore 31 × 18 × approx. 1.0 mm minted sealed blister
Metalor 15.5 × 25.5 mm minted blister, six-digit serial number

Metalor is the outlier: it uses the same 15.5 × 25.5 mm footprint for 5 g and 10 g and publishes no thickness, so a Metalor 10 g bar is shorter and narrower than the Argor-Heraeus and Umicore equivalents.

The step up from 5 g

Doubling the weight roughly halves the share of the price taken by fabrication. That is the entire economic argument for moving up the range, and it applies at every step: the gain from 1 g to 5 g is large, from 5 g to 10 g meaningful, from 50 g to 100 g small.

What you give up is granularity. A 10 g bar has to be sold as 10 g. If that matters, the smaller weights stay divisible; if it does not, every step up the range costs less per gram.

Refiners in this weight

Valcambi, PAMP, Argor-Heraeus, C.Hafner, Umicore, Perth Mint, the Royal Mint, Rand Refinery and Münze Österreich, plus the Argor-Heraeus Kinebar with its embedded KINEGRAM hologram — a security feature Argor-Heraeus is the only refinery licensed to apply.

Valcambi, PAMP, Argor-Heraeus, C.Hafner, Umicore, the Perth Mint and Rand Refinery all appear on the LBMA Good Delivery list for gold. The Royal Mint and Münze Österreich do not appear on it — they are mints rather than accredited refineries, and Münze Österreich states outright that its bars are produced by Argor-Heraeus or PAMP. The accreditation belongs to the refinery and its assay process, not to an individual bar, and the LBMA issues no certificate to a retail buyer.

What you actually pay

The metal value of 10 g at the current market price, plus the producer's premium, plus our margin. Only the first of the three changes during the day, and it changes constantly — see the gold price page for the live figure.

Questions buyers ask about this weight

How much is a 10 g gold bar worth?

Ten times the current gold price per gram, plus the premium on the specific bar. The premium varies by refinery and by whether the bar is a plain minted issue or a security-feature version such as a Kinebar.

How big is a 10 g gold bar?

31.5 × 18.5 × 1.0 mm at Argor-Heraeus and 31 × 18 mm at about 1.0 mm thick at Umicore. Metalor uses a narrower 15.5 × 25.5 mm format and publishes no thickness.

What is a Kinebar?

An Argor-Heraeus bar with a KINEGRAM hologram integrated into the metal surface rather than printed on the packaging. Argor-Heraeus is the only refinery licensed to apply it, which makes the feature difficult to reproduce.

Does the bar have a serial number?

On most brands, yes, and it is repeated on the assay card so the two can be checked against each other. Metalor prints a six-digit serial and adds a DataMatrix code from 20 g upwards; Valcambi matches a serial number to the certificate inside the blister.

Can I sell a 10 g bar back?

Yes. Buyback is quoted against the market price at the time you sell, not the price you paid. See the buyback page.
